FUE is a technique that removes hair follicles individually from one area of the body – the donor site and transplants them to a bald or balding area – the recipient site. Usually used to treat male pattern baldness. It is also a suitable surgical option for female pattern hair loss.
After arrival at our clinic, we prepare the head area for surgery. After anaesthesia the grafts are removed one by one using a hollow needle from the donor area.
The grafts a protected in a special fluid which ensures they stay healthy until ready to be implanted in the transplant area.
Once all the donor hairs have been removed from the scalp, they are then implanted into the transplant area using a special instrument. The operation usually takes 6- 8 hours. Depending on how many grafts are required.
The number of available grafts is determined by your hair structure, hair density and colour. We will advise you of your available options during your consultation.
The results from a FUE transplant are permanent. The transplanted hairs will fall out after a few weeks but the root stays in place and will grow back strong and healthy.
The operation is carried out under local anaesthesia and you shouldn’t feel any pain during the operation. They may be some mild discomfort after the operation and medication is provided for this.
Post op we provide you with special shampoo and a lotion to help with healing.
You should be careful with your transplanted hair for around 4 days after surgery, and most people can return to work 3 days after surgery. Aim to return to exercise after a month.
By 6 months post op new hair will start to appear and the full results should be seen at around 12 months.
